Tiny, acrobatic, and endlessly entertaining — captive-bred African dormice for keepers who love watching more than handling.
African dormice are pocket-sized, wide-eyed climbers that pack an enormous amount of personality into a few grams. They’re best kept in small social groups and are far more of a display and observation animal than a cuddly handful — which is exactly what makes them so much fun to keep.
What to expect
- Nocturnal energy. They wake up as the lights go down and put on a show — leaping, climbing, and foraging through the night.
- Social by nature. Same-sex pairs or small groups from the same litter do best. Solo dormice tend to be stressed and reclusive.
- Vertical space. They use every inch of height, so a tall, cluttered arboreal enclosure beats a wide, empty one.
Our animals
We produce healthy, well-started juveniles from established groups. Read the full African Dormouse care sheet before reserving so you can have the enclosure ready ahead of pickup.
